Make a Wish

For the second year in a row, third grader Eileen W.  held a garage sale and then donated all the money she earned to the Make A Wish Foundation. She was aware of the work they did and wanted to be able to help a child receive a wish.  Way to go, Eileen!

"Pictured with FM100’s Ron Olson and Dana Fox, Eileen W. proudly donated $100 to the Mid-South Chapter from a garage sale she held to raise funds for Make-A-Wish."

3rd Grade's Native American Art

Third graders have been learning about Native Americans in both Art and Social Studies. In Art, they made jewelry, masks, and pouches from real leather. Earlier this year, they made Native replica dwellings of mud houses and tepees to represent different tribes. In Social Studies, they have been reading about the many types of tribes and their cultures. Students will be interacting on a virtual website to learn about the Wampanoag tribe that helped the Pilgrims.

Historical Halloween

Our Historical Halloween theme this year was “World Leaders Throughout History”.   Some of the leaders pictured here were: Julius Caesar, King Arthur, Cleopatra, Charlamange, Pocahontas, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, Mother Theresa, Winston Churchill,  Eva Peron, and Abigail Adams.   Students researched their leaders, then prepared and practiced a short speech to present themselves as that person.

Awards were given for Authenticity of Costume, Quality of Research, or Unique Presentation. Prizes were from Putt-Putt, Chik-fil-A, Wendy’s,and USA Karate.   The Middle School students then put on a fall festival for the elementary students with games, face painting, and candy!

First Time in Bodine History!

On Wednesday, October 28, 2009, the Middle School students experienced for the first time ever a Virtual Lab. Through the computer, they were able to culture dangerous pathogenic bacteria that cause pneumonia or influenza. They also got to experiment on different types of disinfectants and medications to see which were effective against these organisms. Obviously, this would be too dangerous to actually do in a middle school lab. However, it was a valuable experience for the students and a resource offered free through our current text book. Students could also record their data, make tables and answer questions about the experiment on-line.

In addition, our students can log on to an online edition of their textbook if they forget their book at school. They need to log onto: http://www.life.msscience.com/ and then use this student code when they are prompted: E7A97E2806. Study guides, practice quizzes, photos, videos and even some on-line dissections are available on this site. Anyone in the school is welcome to check out this source of valuable information.
