Mr. Shames recently held a private cooking class at the Coleman’s house for two of our students. In attendance from Bodine were Karly C.and Andrew L. The class was held as the result of the Colemans' winning bid at the Acorn Auction! We made Quiche Lorraine, Stromboli, Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Dirt Cake with Worms. We had a great time, and the kids discovered hidden cooking talents!

A Rocky Presentation
First graders had a visit recently from the president of the Memphis Mineralogical & Archaeological Society with an exhibit and discussion about rocks and fossils. Students were able to ask questions and hold examples of rocks and minerals. At the end of our talk, he let each child pick out one rock sample to take home.
Making a Story Quilt
Students in Mrs. Falvey’s class have been creating a story quilt to document the events of the school year. Every six weeks, each student creates a collage patch to illustrate an event, and he or she writes a short narrative of the event on the back of the patch. The quilt includes individual achievement patches, field trip patches, and academic skill patches.

Bodine Lends a Helping Hand
Ever since The Bodine School found out Ronald McDonald House of Memphis collects pull/can tabs to raise money for their organization, the school has been collecting and saving them. What started as merely pulling can tabs at lunch turned into a larger collection endeavor. After two students – fourth grader Carter W. and fifth grader Brayton M. – brought in over 15 pounds each of can tabs last semester, a competition was created by fourth grade teacher Ms. Lee to see who could collect the most can tabs to assist St. Jude families. Numerous students have been bringing in donations of can tabs to do their part to help out. Thanks to them, Bodine has collected over 100 pounds of can tabs so far this semester! One student in particular was determined to help. Fourth grader Avery C. exceeded expectations by collecting and bringing in 78 pounds of can tabs!!! The Bodine School and Ronald McDonald House of Memphis appreciates everyone’s continuing participation.
Bodine Student Art on Display at Paragon Bank in Germantown
Some of our students' artwork is currently on display at the Paragon Bank in Germantown (located at 7600 Poplar Ave.) for the month of April. The bank has a growing collection of work by regional artists and features work by local students monthly. This is the Bodine School's second year to participate. This is a wonderful opportunity to see our students' talents spotlighted.

Bodine Zoo Snooze 2009!
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students from Bodine – along with fourth grade teacher Ms. Lee and several brave dads – showed up at The Memphis Zoo one Friday with sleeping bags in hand. The students had an experience of a lifetime. Animals of many types visited them in the classroom. Then they trekked in dead silence and pitch black to places like The Animals of the Night, The Herpetarium, and the Nutrition Center. By the middle of the night, everyone was a bit on the animal side! Just check out 4th grader Ricky H. and Don O., parent of 5th grader Carter O. By the morning – though little sleep had been had – participants got to walk around the zoo spotting animals before the crowds arrived. Fourth graders Christopher B. and Karly C. couldn’t get enough and scoped out the meerkat habitat before deciding to go home!
